Human trials have used topical and eye-drop Tβ4 formulations, not research-market TB-500. No thymosin beta-4 product is authorized in Canada.
What is TB-500 (thymosin beta-4)?
Thymosin beta-4 was first isolated from calf thymus in the early 1980s by Allan Goldstein’s group, and it turned out to be present in almost every cell type, with especially high levels in platelets and white blood cells. Its main job is structural: it holds monomeric G-actin in reserve, which shapes how cells change form and move. The short stretch responsible, LKKTETQ, sits at residues 17 to 23.
That link to cell movement is why Tβ4 became a research tool for wound-healing, angiogenesis and tissue-repair models. Well-known studies include work in Nature (2004 and 2007) on cardiac cell survival and the activation of epicardial progenitor cells in mice. Its N-terminal fragment, Ac-SDKP, is studied separately for anti-fibrotic signalling. These are preclinical findings, not established effects in people.
