Description
Thymosin Alpha-1 is a 28-amino-acid thymic peptide first isolated in 1977 and among the most clinically studied immune-modulating peptides. As thymalfasin it is a registered medicine in a number of countries outside North America. Pure Peptides Canada supplies it as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 mg vials, with an independent Janoshik HPLC and mass-spectrometry report, CAD pricing and tracked shipping from inside Canada.
Thymosin Alpha-1 at a glance
- What it is: Ac-SDAAVDTSSEITTKDLKEKKEVVEEAEN, an N-acetylated 28-residue peptide originally purified from calf thymus extract.
- What researchers study: T-cell maturation, dendritic-cell activation through Toll-like receptors, and immune responses in infection and vaccine models.
- Evidence level: cell, animal and clinical studies. Registered abroad as thymalfasin (Zadaxin), but not authorized by Health Canada or the US FDA.
- Supplied as: sealed lyophilized powder, 10 mg, single vial or box of 10.

What is Thymosin Alpha-1?
In the 1960s and 70s, Allan Goldstein’s group studied “thymosin fraction 5”, a calf-thymus extract that restored immune function in animals lacking a thymus. In 1977 they isolated and sequenced its most active component, a 28-residue acetylated peptide, Thymosin Alpha-1. The same group also isolated thymosin beta-4, now known in the research market as TB-500, but the two are unrelated in structure and function.
Thymosin Alpha-1 is studied as an immune modulator. Cell work shows it acts on Toll-like receptors in dendritic cells and promotes T-cell maturation and cytokine signalling. As thymalfasin (Zadaxin), it was developed for chronic hepatitis B and C and as an immune adjuvant, and is registered in a number of countries. Larger trials have reported mixed results, and it has not been authorized in Canada or the United States.
What Thymosin Alpha-1 research looks at
- Innate immune signalling: TLR9 and TLR2 activation in dendritic cells and macrophages.
- T-cell biology: thymocyte maturation and Th1 cytokine responses.
- Infection models: viral hepatitis, sepsis and respiratory infection studies.
- Vaccine adjuvant research: antibody responses in immunocompromised models.
- Thymic peptide comparisons: alongside thymulin and thymogen.
Regulatory status: Thymosin Alpha-1 is not an authorized drug in Canada. We sell it strictly as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research, not as thymalfasin or any finished medicine.

Where can I buy Thymosin Alpha-1 in Canada?
Pure Peptides Canada stocks Thymosin Alpha-1 as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 mg vials and ships it from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.
Is Thymosin Alpha-1 the same as thymosin beta-4 (TB-500)?
No. Both were isolated from thymus extract by the same research group, but they are unrelated peptides. Thymosin Alpha-1 is an immune modulator. Thymosin beta-4 is an actin-binding protein studied in cell migration and repair.
Is Thymosin Alpha-1 the same as thymalfasin?
Thymalfasin is the international drug name for Thymosin Alpha-1, marketed as Zadaxin in some countries. This listing is a research reagent, not the registered medicine.
Is this Thymosin Alpha-1 third-party tested?
Yes. An HPLC purity and mass-spectrometry identity report from Janoshik Analytical, an independent lab, is listed on our Lab Testing page. Our COA guide explains how to read it.
Can Thymosin Alpha-1 be used in people or animals?
No. This product is for in-vitro laboratory research only and is not a drug, supplement or food. We do not provide dosing or administration information.
For laboratory research use only. Not a drug, supplement, food or cosmetic, not for human or veterinary use, and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
