What is sermorelin?
Growth-hormone-releasing hormone was isolated in 1982 from pancreatic tumours that had caused acromegaly. Researchers soon found that its first 29 amino acids, with an amidated end, did everything the full 44-residue hormone did at the receptor. That fragment became sermorelin. Serono developed it as Geref, which the US FDA approved in 1997 for diagnosing and treating growth-hormone deficiency in children. Serono discontinued it in 2008 for commercial and manufacturing reasons.
Sermorelin is unmodified, so enzymes break it down within minutes. That short life is a feature in some study designs and the reason later analogues exist: CJC-1295 No DAC adds four stabilizing substitutions, CJC-1295 with DAC adds albumin binding, and tesamorelin adds a fatty-acid-like group. Sermorelin remains the baseline they are all compared against.
