Description

Epithalon, also spelled Epitalon, is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, created in St. Petersburg as a defined version of a pineal-gland extract. It is the best-known compound in telomere and ageing-biology peptide research. Pure Peptides Canada supplies it as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 and 50 mg vials, with an independent Janoshik HPLC and mass-spectrometry report, CAD pricing and tracked shipping from inside Canada.

Epithalon at a glance

  • What it is: the tetrapeptide AEDG, designed by Vladimir Khavinson’s group from the amino-acid profile of epithalamin, a bovine pineal extract.
  • What researchers study: telomerase activity and telomere length in cell cultures, melatonin rhythms in ageing animals, and lifespan in model organisms.
  • Evidence level: cell and animal work, mostly from one research group, with limited independent replication.
  • Supplied as: sealed lyophilized powder in 10 or 50 mg, single vial or box of 10.
  • Delivery: ships from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

Where the evidence stands

  1. Cell studies
  2. Animal models
  3. Controlled human trials
  4. Approved medicine

Most published work comes from the St. Petersburg group that created it. Epithalon is not an approved medicine anywhere.

What is Epithalon?

From the 1970s, Vladimir Khavinson and colleagues at what became the St. Petersburg Institute of Bioregulation and Gerontology studied short peptides extracted from animal glands, which they called bioregulators. One extract from the pineal gland, epithalamin, attracted particular interest. Analysis of its amino-acid composition led the group to synthesize a single defined tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, which they named Epitalon.

Its reputation rests largely on a 2003 report that it switched on telomerase and lengthened telomeres in cultured human fibroblasts, along with animal studies on melatonin secretion and lifespan in mice, rats and fruit flies. Those findings are widely cited, but nearly all come from the same research network, and few have been independently replicated. That is the honest state of the evidence, and it is what makes Epithalon interesting as a research tool.

What Epithalon research looks at

  • Telomere biology: telomerase expression and telomere length in somatic cell cultures.
  • Pineal function: melatonin rhythms in ageing animal models.
  • Lifespan studies: survival and tumour incidence in rodents and Drosophila.
  • Gene regulation: proposed direct interactions between short peptides and DNA or chromatin.
  • Bioregulator comparisons: alongside related short peptides such as Pinealon and Vilon.

Regulatory status: Epithalon is not an authorized drug in Canada, and Health Canada’s April 2026 public advisory on unauthorized injectable peptides names it. We sell it strictly as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research.

Epithalon FAQ

Where can I buy Epithalon in Canada?

Pure Peptides Canada stocks Epithalon as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 and 50 mg vials and ships it from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

Is Epithalon the same as Epitalon?

Yes. Epitalon, Epithalon and Epithalone are spellings of the same tetrapeptide, Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. Epithalamin, by contrast, is the older pineal extract it was modelled on.

Does Epithalon lengthen telomeres?

A 2003 cell-culture study reported telomerase activation and telomere elongation in human fibroblasts. That finding comes mainly from one research group and has not been firmly established by independent labs. Our Epitalon research guide sets out what has and has not been replicated.

Is this Epithalon third-party tested?

Yes. An HPLC purity and mass-spectrometry identity report from Janoshik Analytical, an independent lab, is listed on our Lab Testing page. Our COA guide explains how to read it.

Is Epithalon approved in Canada?

No. Epithalon is not an authorized drug in Canada or elsewhere. It is sold here only as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research.

Can Epithalon be used in people or animals?

No. It is for in-vitro laboratory research only and is not a drug, supplement or food. We do not provide dosing or administration information.

For laboratory research use only. Not a drug, supplement, food or cosmetic, not for human or veterinary use, and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

    Unsure yet

    CASaskatoon, SK

Slow down aging? I’m in! Not sure if it works yet though. Will write another review when I get some results and if I don’t get good results, ill be honest. 4 stars because I dont know yet but hope to change it to a 5!
