Description

Ovagen is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (EDL), a short peptide from the St. Petersburg bioregulator programme that is catalogued as liver- and gut-associated, although the few accessible studies of the sequence looked at kidney cells and kidney function in rats, plus a multi-tissue explant screen. Pure Peptides Canada supplies it as a lyophilized research reagent in 20 mg vials, with an independent Janoshik HPLC and mass-spectrometry report, CAD pricing and tracked shipping from inside Canada.

Ovagen at a glance

  • What it is: L-glutamyl-L-aspartyl-L-leucine (EDL), a synthetic tripeptide from Vladimir Khavinson’s bioregulator programme.
  • What researchers study: what leucine adds to the Glu-Asp core shared by the ED-family peptides, extracellular-matrix markers in aged kidney-cell cultures, and comparisons with Bronchogen and Livagen.
  • Evidence level: very limited. One kidney-cell study, one kidney-function study in old rats, one tissue-explant screen and one docking study, all from the developers’ network; we found no liver- or gut-specific study.
  • Supplied as: sealed lyophilized powder, 20 mg, single vial or box of 10.
  • Delivery: ships from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

What is Ovagen?

Ovagen is a synthetic tripeptide, L-glutamyl-L-aspartyl-L-leucine. It belongs to a group of St. Petersburg peptides built on a Glu-Asp (ED) core: Vesilute is the ED dipeptide itself, and Ovagen, Chonluten (EDG), Crystagen (EDP) and Pinealon (EDR) each add one residue. Ovagen’s third residue, leucine, is hydrophobic, so EDL is less polar than the glycine, proline and arginine versions.

Ovagen is also the last three residues of Bronchogen (Ala-Glu-Asp-Leu), and the developers’ 2016 docking study predicted the same DNA-binding motif for both peptides. By tissue label its nearest neighbour is Livagen (Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala), the liver-associated tetrapeptide described in a Khavinson patent with data from rat hepatocyte cultures; the two share only the Glu-Asp pair.

The developers’ 2021 systematic review of short-peptide gene regulation does not name Ovagen and mentions EDL only in kidney-cell work, and we found no primary paper that explains the liver and gut association.

What published studies report

  • Aged kidney-cell cultures. Khavinson and colleagues (Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2014) compared a calf-kidney polypeptide extract with two short peptides, coded T-31 (Ala-Glu-Asp) and T-35 (EDL), in primary kidney-cell cultures from young Wistar rats, aged in vitro to the 14th passage. EDL raised expression of the matrix metalloproteinase MMP-14 about 1.5-fold but did not change the proliferation marker Ki-67 or interleukin-8; the cell-renewal effects reported in the study came from the extract and the other peptide.
  • Kidney function in old rats. Zamorskii and colleagues (Advances in Gerontology, 2019) compared a kidney polypeptide complex with the synthetic peptides AED, EDL and AEDG in old rats. The complex, AED and EDL increased urine output (by 1.2 to 1.4 times across the three), and EDL increased sodium excretion 1.6-fold; the fall in urinary protein reported for the complex and AED was not reported for EDL. It is a single study from the developers’ network.
  • Tissue explants from young and old rats. Chalisova and colleagues (Integrative Physiology, 2023) reported that nine short peptides, among them Glu-Asp-Leu, Glu-Asp-Arg and Glu-Asp-Pro, increased cell proliferation in explants of cerebral cortex, liver and spleen from 3- and 18-month-old rats. The abstract gives no breakdown by peptide or tissue, so it does not show a liver-selective effect.
  • Computer docking. In a modelling study of 19 short peptides (Khavinson, Lin’kova and Tarnovskaya, Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine, 2016), Ovagen was predicted to bind the DNA sequence CTCC, with binding rated as strong, the same site predicted for Bronchogen. The results are docking simulations only, without experimental binding data.

What is not established

Liver- or gut-specific activity, replication of the MMP-14 and rat kidney-function results outside the developers’ network, and DNA binding in cells. Ovagen suits exploratory comparisons within the ED family rather than studies that assume a known effect.

Regulatory status: Ovagen is not an authorized drug in Canada. We sell it strictly as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research.

Ovagen FAQ

Where can I buy Ovagen in Canada?

Pure Peptides Canada stocks Ovagen as a lyophilized research reagent in 20 mg vials and ships it from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

What is the difference between Ovagen and Livagen?

They are different peptides that share only a Glu-Asp pair. Ovagen is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Leu (about 375.4 g/mol); Livagen is the tetrapeptide Lys-Glu-Asp-Ala (about 461.5 g/mol), the subject of a Khavinson patent that reports work in rat hepatocyte cultures. Both are catalogued as liver-associated, but Livagen has more liver-specific work behind it.

Which tissues has the EDL sequence been tested in?

In the accessible literature, aged rat kidney-cell cultures, where it raised MMP-14 expression; old rats, where a 2019 study reported higher urine output and sodium excretion; and a 2023 screen of rat cortex, liver and spleen explants, where it was one of nine peptides reported to increase proliferation. We found no study of Ovagen in gut cells.

How do I check the lab report for Ovagen?

Open the Janoshik report linked on this page and confirm that it names Ovagen (Glu-Asp-Leu) and reports a mass consistent with about 375.4 g/mol. Our COA guide explains how to read the rest of the report.

Can Ovagen be used in people or animals?

No. This product is for in-vitro laboratory research only and is not a drug, supplement or food. We do not provide dosing or administration information.
