Description

GHRP-6 is the original growth-hormone-releasing hexapeptide, described by Cyril Bowers in 1984, fifteen years before ghrelin itself was discovered. It remains the classic reference compound for ghrelin-receptor research. Pure Peptides Canada supplies it as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 mg vials, with an independent Janoshik HPLC and mass-spectrometry report, CAD pricing and tracked shipping from inside Canada.

GHRP-6 at a glance

  • What it is: His-D-Trp-Ala-Trp-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, a six-residue ghrelin-receptor (GHS-R1a) agonist and the first synthetic peptide of its class.
  • What researchers study: GHS-R1a signalling, appetite and feeding behaviour, and cytoprotection in heart and gut models.
  • Evidence level: extensive cell and animal work plus human pharmacology studies. Never approved as a medicine.
  • Supplied as: sealed lyophilized powder, 10 mg, single vial or box of 10.
  • Delivery: ships from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

What is GHRP-6?

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Cyril Bowers at Tulane University began modifying small opioid-like peptides and found that some released growth hormone through a receptor that was not the GHRH receptor. GHRP-6, reported in 1984, was the standout. For years its receptor was an orphan. When ghrelin was discovered in 1999, it turned out GHRP-6 had been mimicking it all along by activating GHS-R1a.

GHRP-6 behaves much like ghrelin in study models, including a strong stimulation of appetite that later GHRPs show less. Research has also looked at cytoprotective effects in heart, liver and gut injury models, a line of work that continues independently of growth hormone. Its long publication record makes it the default comparator for newer ghrelin-receptor agonists.

What GHRP-6 research looks at

  • Ghrelin-receptor pharmacology: GHS-R1a activation and downstream signalling.
  • Appetite and feeding: ghrelin-like effects on food intake in animal models.
  • Cytoprotection: heart, liver and gastrointestinal injury models.
  • GHRP family comparisons: potency and selectivity against GHRP-2, hexarelin and ipamorelin.
  • GHRH synergy: combined studies with GHRH analogues such as sermorelin.

Regulatory status: GHRP-6 is not an authorized drug in Canada, and growth-hormone secretagogues are on the World Anti-Doping Agency prohibited list. We sell it strictly as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research.

GHRP-6 FAQ

Where can I buy GHRP-6 in Canada?

Pure Peptides Canada stocks GHRP-6 as a lyophilized research reagent in 10 mg vials and ships it from inside Canada by tracked Xpresspost in 3–7 days ($25 CAD), or free in 4–12 days on orders over $299.

What is the difference between GHRP-6 and GHRP-2?

GHRP-6 is the original 1984 peptide. GHRP-2 is a more potent second-generation analogue. GHRP-6 is known for a stronger appetite effect in study models. See our GHRP-6 vs GHRP-2 vs hexarelin comparison.

How is GHRP-6 related to ghrelin?

GHRP-6 activates the same receptor as ghrelin, GHS-R1a. It was discovered first, and its unknown receptor was one of the leads that eventually led to ghrelin’s discovery in 1999.

Is this GHRP-6 third-party tested?

Yes. The listing links an HPLC purity and mass-spectrometry identity report from Janoshik Analytical, an independent lab. Our COA guide explains how to read it.

Is GHRP-6 approved in Canada?

No. GHRP-6 is not an authorized drug in Canada or elsewhere. It is sold here only as a laboratory reagent for in-vitro research.

Can GHRP-6 be used in people or animals?

No. This product is for in-vitro laboratory research only and is not a drug, supplement or food. We do not provide dosing or administration information.

For laboratory research use only. Not a drug, supplement, food or cosmetic, not for human or veterinary use, and not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
